A tenement gable painted with a rainy Sma' Shot Day parade with a tall effigy, flags, umbrellas and a drum in Paisley, by Shaun Devenney.

☔ A Rainy Sma' Shot Day Parade Fills a Tenement Gable — By Shaun Devenney in Paisley, UK 🇬🇧

📍 See it on the map

The whole gable of a stone tenement becomes a parade in the rain, painted in blues and violets. A tall effigy with flaming orange hair rises over flags, umbrellas, a purple Sma' Shot banner and a big drum, while children walk below.

Shaun Devenney signed the wall Devenney. It stands at 19 Neilston Road in Paisley, the town that holds Sma' Shot Day on the first Saturday in July.

💡 Nerd Fact: The painted effigy and drum echo the festival itself. Sma' Shot Day marks the Paisley weavers' victory over employers who would not pay for the sma' shot, a hidden cotton thread in their shawls; it opens with a parade led by a replica of the Charleston Drum and includes the Burning of the Cork, an effigy of one of the manufacturers.
