A red oval covered in white branching root-like lines on a dark grey wall below a brick building in Montreal, by algueux.

🦠 “Slime escape” Sends White Roots Across a Red Oval — By algueux in Montreal, Canada 🇨🇦

📍 See it on the map

A huge red oval fills a dark grey wall under a brick facade, crossed by thin white lines that branch like roots or veins and spill past its edge. Stretched white letters run through the middle, so the title word seems to escape into the tangle.

Painted for Canettes de ruelle, an event that turns the alleys of Vieux Rosemont in Montreal into painting sites.

On a black storefront wall, a young man in a backwards blue cap pulls at his face with both hands, a heavy gold ring on nearly every finger. A red patch sits on his nose, purple haze glows behind him, and the pink tag Odrus runs across the top corner.

Odrus is the tag of Rafael Santos, a deaf graffiti artist from the outskirts of Brazil's Federal District; the name is an anagram of “surdo,” Portuguese for deaf, according to Metrópoles.

The white gable of a house in Caen, France, covered in small dots shifting from violet and blue to red and yellow, by Vincent Small.

🐦 “Murmurations_270926” Scatters Colored Dots Across a White Gable — By Vincent Small in Caen, France 🇫🇷

📍 See it on the map

Thousands of small painted dots drift across a white gable, thinning near the roof and windows and thickening into a band that runs from deep violet and blue through magenta and red to golden yellow. Tiled roofs and a glass veranda frame the wall.

Painted for the Palma Festival in Caen, at 33 Rue Malfilâtre.

💡 Nerd Fact: Starling flocks like the one the title evokes run on simple local rules: a 2008 study of starlings over Rome found each bird matches the direction and speed of its nearest seven or so neighbors rather than every bird around it, as researchers explain in The Conversation.

Huge white blossoms cover the gable end of a stone-cornered building, each flower opening around a cluster of long, red-tipped stamens. The petals overlap around a shuttered window and a small vent, with a dark reddish ground showing between them.

Painted for Muro Crítico, the street art festival of the Diputación de Cáceres, whose El Torno murals were inspired by the cherry blossom and the granite boulders of the area. Location: Calle del Maestro Adolfo Izquierdo 14.

💡 Nerd Fact: El Torno is one of the Jerte Valley villages that hold the Fiesta del Cerezo en Flor each spring, usually from late March to early April, when the valley’s hillsides turn white with cherry blossom, according to Spain’s official tourism site.
