I Thought the Walls Were Moving (12 Photos)
From the creator of Street Art Utopia ↗
A wall, caught mid-movement
Cats hang in the air. An eagle reaches out to land. A swimmer leaves a shadow on a blue wall. DALeast builds these figures from fine painted lines that look like wire, then lets the edges come apart.
These twelve murals span 2012–2019. More of his work is in DALeast’s official work archive, and the earlier walls are in our original DALeast collection.

🐈 “The Dream of Separation” — By DALeast in Paris, France 🇫🇷
Two golden cats curve toward each other across a pale blue facade. Their bodies break into loose strands, leaving a large gap of wall between them. Painted in 2019 for Boulevard Paris 13, at 154 boulevard Vincent Auriol. 📷 Photo: meuh1246.

🦌 “Gaiad” — By DALeast in Łódź, Poland 🇵🇱
A deer towers over the person at the foot of the wall. Birds and bare branches run through its body. Painted in 2014 for the Galeria Urban Forms project. The wall is at ul. Łąkowa 10, according to In Your Pocket Łódź.

🐆 “London Dare I” — By DALeast in London, UK 🇬🇧
A leaping cat pulls away from a tangle of black lines on Pedley Street, near Brick Lane. The orange wall makes the silver highlights stand out. Painted in 2013. 📷 Photo: StreetArtNews.
💡 Street Art Fact: The London Dare turned an exhibition into a hunt across seven walls. Visitors used online clues to find them; the final wall was inside the exhibition venue.

🦅 “Defoliation” — By DALeast in Dunedin, New Zealand 🇳🇿
The eagle reaches forward with both claws while fragments scatter from its wings. Painted at 25 Stafford Street in 2014 for the Dunedin Mural Project. 📷 Photo: Allison Brown.
💡 Wildlife Fact: This is a Haast’s eagle, an extinct species from New Zealand’s South Island. The mural shows it coming in to land.

🪽 “TKOF” — By DALeast in Rochester, New York, USA 🇺🇸
One wing rises almost vertically while the other reaches across the coral-colored wall. Loose marks trail behind the bird, with the real fence just below. Painted in July 2013 for the Wall Therapy festival at 480 W Main St. The full wall, about 30 meters long, shows an eagle taking off with a wave and a nearly capsized boat, according to Arrested Motion. 📷 Photo: Mark Deff (photo source).

🦉 “Abscission” — By DALeast in Honolulu, Hawaii, USA 🇺🇸
An owl stretches across a long ocher wall. Its wings dissolve at the tips, while the face and talons stay sharply defined. Painted in 2013. 📷 Photo: Brandon Shigeta (photo source).

🐈 “Self Portrayal” — By DALeast in Heerlen, Netherlands 🇳🇱
A huge feline face peers from behind a real tree. Painted shadows make the tangled lines seem to hover just off the house. Painted in 2013.

🦌 “一” — By DALeast in Vienna, Austria 🇦🇹
A dark stag stands beneath a fringe of ivy. Pale highlights turn the loops into something that looks like bent metal, although the surface is painted. The title is the Chinese character for “one”; the full mural shows two deer joined by a long horizontal rope. Painted in 2013.

🏊 “Adagio Assai” — By DALeast in Los Angeles, USA 🇺🇸
A swimmer stretches across a blue wall, with a second tangle forming its shadow below. The trailing fragments make the figure look as if it is moving through water. Painted in 2013.

🔄 “Seven to Eight” — By DALeast in Bristol, UK 🇬🇧
Human figures turn through a circle against a bright blue wall, surrounded by yellow fragments. The mural was made for Upfest in 2013.

🧍 “Abhassara Mote” — By DALeast in San Diego, USA 🇺🇸
A human figure seems to come apart above a small doorway. This is one side of the 2014 project, which also included a shark. Sea Walls records that the mural no longer exists.

🏍️ “Counterattack Company” — By DALeast in Johannesburg, South Africa 🇿🇦
A motorcycle and rider stretch across the gray wall above the street. From this wider view, the painted fragments look like a trail left by a passing vehicle. Painted in 2012.
💡 Artist Fact: According to his gallery biography, DALeast was born in Wuhan, China, in 1984, trained in sculpture, and began working in public space in 2004. The same biography gives Cape Town as his base.
