The Vision 3D mural by Cheone, Casa Maiocchi, Milan, Lombardy, Italy

The Vision
Cheone (Cosimo Caiffa) · “The Vision”, trompe-l’oeil art wall for MV Line Group, July 2021 · Casa Maiocchi, Corso di Porta Romana, Milan, Lombardy
Photo as published on Street Art Utopia; photographer not named. The boom lift and the unpainted grey base of the wall suggest it was taken before the work was finished; the commissioner shows photos of the finished wall on its project page
Cheone, the street artist Cosimo Caiffa from Gallipoli, painted “The Vision” on the blind side wall of Casa Maiocchi on Corso di Porta Romana in Milan, and it was unveiled on 26 July 2021. The trompe-l’oeil copies the 1920s building’s own windows, cornices and balconies and makes them bend and melt, in a nod to Gaudí’s Casa Batlló. It was an advertising art wall for the sun-shade maker MV Line Group and was announced as temporary; in February 2022 a new Cheone mural, “Time to Fly”, was reported on the wall.
5 things to know
- An advert that meltsThe commissioner, MV Line Group, makes sun and insect protection for homes. Its project page says the idea is the clear split between the lower-floor windows, protected by its sun shades, and the rest of a building that seems to melt in the heat without them. Collater.al: “It is no coincidence, in fact, that all the painted windows that are not protected by red curtains seem to melt from the heat.” MV Line · Collater.al · Comune di Gallipoli
- The building copied, then bentCasa Maiocchi was designed by the architect Piero Portaluppi in 1920, according to the Italian press. MV Line says Cheone recreated the building’s facade on the blind side wall “con gli stessi elementi architettonici utilizzando lo stesso colore” (with the same architectural elements, using the same colour) and then distorted its perspectives, planes and symmetries. MV Line · Finestre sull’Arte · Artribune
- Gaudí in MilanFinestre sull’Arte and Collater.al both name Gaudí’s Casa Batlló in Barcelona as the inspiration; Artribune compares it with Casa Batlló and Casa Milà. Finestre sull’Arte · Collater.al · Artribune
- Meant to be temporaryMV Line announced it as “Visibile dal 26 luglio al 30 settembre” (on view from 26 July to 30 September). In December 2021 it got a Christmas makeover, due to be finished on 3 December, with 3D garlands on the balconies, lights and a Father Christmas, and MV Line said it would be on view until 31 December 2021. - A wall that changesThe wall is an art wall run with Clear Channel Italia. In June 2021 Mentelocale reported Cheone’s “Il Titano” for the brand Casavo at Corso di Porta Romana 111/113, on view until 30 June 2021. On 27 February 2022 Civita reported a new Cheone art wall, “Time to Fly”, on the wall at Corso di Porta Romana 111 “riqualificata da Clear Channel Italia”; its photo shows the same gable with two hands releasing butterflies. Every stamp links to the dated source. Amber stamps are reports, listings and reposts; none of the photos we found carries a camera date. The red stamp is Civita’s report of a new mural on the same wall, with a photo of the gable showing “Time to Fly”. The street-artwork.com entry was added on 14 June 2026 with a photo “published on 14-06-2026 by an unknown hunter”; it does not say when the photo was taken, so we do not count it as a sighting. The SAU stamps show the same picture again and say nothing about whether the mural is still there. Il Giornale’s article carries the date 25 September 2022 but describes the work as on view until 30 September; see The facts.
