💡 4 things to know

  1. Where Greenville beganThe garden club’s history says Richard Pearis settled at the falls in the 1770s, built a grist mill and a sawmill, and founded the settlement it calls the birthplace of Greenville; further down, the same page says the falls were first inhabited by Pearis in 1700. We lean towards the 1770s: the page gives that decade in its account of Pearis’s settlement, and 1700 appears only once, in a sentence about the 2002 project. Source Conflicting
  2. A garden club’s parkIn 1967 the Carolina Foothills Garden Club set out to reclaim the Reedy River, and Furman University deeded six acres for a falls park. Source Checked
  3. The road bridge came downFrom 2002 the city removed the Camperdown traffic bridge and built a pedestrian bridge in its place, as part of a $13 million project. Source Checked
  4. A bridge to see the fallsVisit Greenville says the curved, 345-foot Liberty Bridge was built to reveal the falls. Source Checked
