đź’ˇ 4 things to know

  1. 341 metres in three stagesGastein’s tourism office describes a drop of 341 metres in three stages through the centre of the town. Source Checked
  2. Fed by the Hohe TauernThe Gasteiner Ache, fed by the Anlaufbach and the NaĂźfelder Ache in the Hohe Tauern National Park, plunges right through the town. Source Checked
  3. Built in 1827 or 1840?Gastein’s tourism office says the stone waterfall bridge was built in 1840, and a local history page dates its foundation stone to 8 October 1840 and its opening to 31 October 1840. A plate on the bridge railing, visible in the photo above, reads “erbaut 1827 / renoviert 2010” (built 1827, renovated 2010). We lean towards 1840: two written sources give it, one with exact dates for the foundation stone and the opening; we could not find out what the 1827 on the plate refers to. 4. Widened in 1927 or 1928?The tourism office says the bridge was expanded in 1927; the local history page says the waterfall bridge was widened in 1928. We lean towards 1928: the local history page gives that year together with the cost of the work (75,000 schillings). Source Source Conflicting
