Boomklever (Nuthatch) mural designed by Collin van der Sluijs, painted with Treepack, Dorpsstraat, Meerbeek, Kortenberg, Belgium

A house gable in Meerbeek painted turquoise from ground to roof ridge. A large nuthatch with a blue-grey back, a black eye stripe and a warm buff belly clings head-first to a pale tree trunk on the right. Around it grow outlined dark blue leaves and stems, two purple crocus-like flowers and a blue-violet hyacinth. Three clipped green hedges stand in front of a wooden bench at the foot of the wall, under a clear blue sky.

A nuthatch the height of a house clings to a painted tree trunk on a gable in Meerbeek, a village in the Flemish municipality of Kortenberg, east of Brussels. The design is by Dutch artist Collin van der Sluijs. Regional broadcaster ROB-tv reported in April 2024 that the street art collective Treepack painted it. It was the second wall in Kortenberg’s street art project, for which residents could offer their own facades. The newest dated photo we found was taken on 29 April 2024; a Street Art Cities user marked the work as seen on 28 June 2026.

5 things to know

  1. His design, Treepack’s brushesROB-tv: “De muurschildering werd gemaakt door kunstenaarscollectief Treepack, naar een ontwerp van de Nederlandse kunstenaar Collin van der Sluijs.” (“The mural was made by the artists’ collective Treepack, after a design by the Dutch artist Collin van der Sluijs.”) Treepack’s own project page lists the work under Collin Van der Sluijs and calls it “Zijn muurschildering” (“His mural”). 2. A wall offered by its residentsKortenberg asked residents to put forward their own facades. ROB-tv: “inwoners hun eigen gevel konden openstellen voor een muurschildering” (“residents could open up their own facade for a mural”). VRT says the call went out in August 2023 and 38 facades were submitted; Kruisstraat in Everberg and Dorpsstraat in Meerbeek were chosen. ROB-tv · VRT NWS, 2024 · Treepack
  3. The neighbours picked the artistLeuven Actueel: “In overleg met de betrokken buurtbewoners werd gekozen voor de Nederlandse artiest Collin Van der Sluijs.” (“In consultation with the local residents involved, the Dutch artist Collin Van der Sluijs was chosen.”) Leuven Actueel, 20 Apr 2024 · Treepack
  4. Plants and a bird from down the roadThe municipality, as quoted on the Street Art Cities entry: “Wie regelmatig in de Rotte Gaten in Meerbeek vertoeft, herkent ongetwijfeld de fauna en flora in het kunstwerk. De boomklever kijkt de Dorpsstraat in, mee met de rijrichting” (“Anyone who often spends time in the Rotte Gaten in Meerbeek will surely recognise the fauna and flora in the artwork. The nuthatch looks into the Dorpsstraat, in the direction of traffic”). The same text mentions hyacinths, “fresh mint green” and the bench in front of the gable. Street Art Cities
  5. Number two after a sparrowROB-tv: “Dit is de tweede muurschildering binnen het project, eerder verscheen er al een mus op een gevel in Everberg.” (“This is the second mural in the project; a sparrow appeared earlier on a facade in Everberg.”) VRT says the Everberg design is by the Mexican-Spanish duo Alegria Del Prado. Every stamp links to the dated source. Green stamps are photos taken at the wall with a recorded date: a Treepack photo whose camera date is 18 April 2024 (it shows the finished mural with a person standing at the bench), and the Street Art Cities photo by Tiny Tim, whose file carries the camera date 29 April 2024 (OnePlus 10 Pro, with the wall’s GPS position). Those are camera dates, not the day the mural was finished; Street Art Cities separately lists 22 April 2024 as the date the work was completed, a date entered by the hunter, shown on the page as “Created on April 21, 2024”. Amber stamps are dated reports and records: Leuven Actueel’s announcement of 4 April 2024 and its “finished” report of 20 April 2024, ROB-tv’s report of 23 April 2024, and the Street Art Cities “last seen” date of 28 June 2026, which records that a user marked the work as seen that day, without a new photo. We found no report of damage or removal. The newest dated photo we found is from 29 April 2024.
